Some residents in Parkville and the surrounding area recently received a direct mail piece regarding Google Fiber. While Google Fiber is expanding in the Northland, sign-ups are limited to residents in specific areas of Gladstone and Kansas City. Currently, the signup area excludes Parkville.
Google has not disclosed its long-term timeline of when and where fiber will be extended. Parkville City officials have been advised that there is nothing more that the City or its residents can do to accelerate (or even ensure) the build-out of the Google Fiber network in Parkville. The City will provide updates if and when new information becomes available.

National Volunteer Week is April 6 – 12, 2014. This year’s National Volunteer Week is about taking action and encouraging individuals and their respective communities to be at the center of social change, with the goal of discovering and actively demonstrating their collective power to make a difference.
The City of Parkville plans to conduct a volunteer recognition event during National Volunteer Week for the City to honor local Parkville residents or Park Hill School District student volunteers who have helped make a difference in the community over the past year. Volunteers would need to be Parkville residents, volunteers serving Parkville-based agencies, or any student in the Park Hill School District.
Nominations will be accepted via a web form on Survey Monkey. The nomination website address is: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/W7KTCK6. Nominations will be accepted from March 5 – 31, 2014. City Staff will then select from among the nominations and highlight a different volunteer each day during Volunteer Week on the City’s website and in social media. The Board would provide recognition at the regular Board of Alderman meeting on April 15, 2014, for those volunteers interested in attending.
