General statement of main duties: The City of Parkville is currently seeking help for the Parks Division. Parks Laborer position is responsible for the maintenance and development of the park system within the City of Parkville. This position will also assist the Street Department for snow removal and ice control operations.
Applicant must have a good driving record and a high school diploma or equivalent. Prior to employment the applicant shall pass a background check and drug screen. Employment is subject to Board of Alderman approval.
July 28th: Dedication ceremony for the new picnic tables at the Parkville Nature Sanctuary.
Funds from the Barbara Lance donation fund were used to purchase the new tables. The dedication will begin at 6 p.m. at the Parkville Nature Sanctuary entrance area.
August 12th: Dedication ceremony for the newly reconstructed Spirit Fountain at the Parkville Train Depot.
The City of Parkville received a generous donation from Phil and Barbara Wassmer for the replacement of the stones around the perimeter of the fountain. The dedication will begin at 6:30 p.m. The Wassmer family will be present for the dedication ceremony.

PARKVILLE’S 2015 CIVIC LEADERSHIP AWARD
PARKVILLE, MO, JULY 22, 2015 – Last week, Ed Bradley was honored with Parkville’s 2015 Civic Leadership Award at the Missouri Municipal League West Gate Awards Banquet. The Missouri Municipal League Civic Leadership Awards gives local communities an opportunity to recognize the outstanding contributions of business and civic leaders in developing stronger cities.
Each mayor was asked to select an outstanding civic leader in his or her community. Ed Bradley was selected as Parkville’s honoree. Ed serves in leadership positions with the Parkville Chamber, Parkville Economic Develop Council, Main Street Parkville Association, and many more
Important Update! The City received notice from Missouri American Water that they have completed flushing of waterlines in both Riss Lake and Thousand Oaks. Missouri American Water encourages residents to clean aerators/screens and flush cold water to remove any residual particles from the system.
If there are any additional issues, the residents should contact Missouri American Water directly (816-741-2992) to schedule an appointment to investigate the issues further.
WARD 1 BOARD OF ALDERMEN VACANCY
PARKVILLE, MO, JULY 13, 2015 –The City of Parkville is accepting applications to fill a Ward 1 Board of Alderman vacancy following the resignation of Alderman Kari Lamer effective August 8, 2015. Mayor Nan Johnston will nominate and appoint, with Board of Aldermen approval, a replacement to serve until the next municipal election on April 5, 2016. Qualifications for the Ward 1 Board of Aldermen vacancy are as follows:
• Resident of Ward 1 (Ward Map Below)
• 18 years of age
• United States citizen
• 1 year city resident
• Registered voter
• Current on any city taxes or user fees
Interested candidates should submit a cover letter and resume to the City Clerk Melissa McChesney by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, July 31. From MoDOT: K Highway to be closed north of Crooked Road July 27th. Please see the attached map for approximate location of closure. Detour signs will be placed on July 13th in anticipation of construction. Completion anticipated prior to the first day of school in August, all work is weather dependent. Save the date! Join us for a Steamboat Arabia marker dedication on Thursday, July 9th at 2:00 p.m. in English Landing Park (see map below). We will be dedicating a historical marker at the spot where the Steamboat Arabia sank in 1856 and hearing remarks from the excavators of the Arabia. City vehicles will be at the Farmers Market to transport people to the dedication ceremony for those that are unable to walk.
