After an extensive search and diligent selection process, the City of Parkville hired Joe Parente as the new city administrator at the Board of Aldermen meeting on February 21, 2017. He will begin work on February 27.
In October 2016, the City hired Strategic Government Resources (SGR) to conduct a comprehensive, nationwide search for a new city administrator. Concurrent with the search, Kirk Davis, former Gladstone City Manager and senior vice president of SGR, was appointed as interim city administrator until a permanent city administrator was hired and in place.
The City formed a search committee consisting of Alderman Marc Sportsman, Tina Welch and Doug Wylie; interim city administrator Kirk Davis; and Finance/Human Resources Director Matthew Chapman. SGR received 44 applications and the selection committee narrowed down the initial pool to 11 semi-finalists based on qualifications. After additional vetting by SGR, the committee selected the top three finalists who were invited for an on-site selection process in early February.
Parente brings more than 30 years of local government experience to Parkville with expertise in financial and budget management, operations and project management, city planning and economic development. Parente served the last 10 years as County Administrator in the County of Madison, Illinois. He received a Master of Public Administration with dual coursework with the Master of City and Regional Planning Program from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. He is a certified planner with the American Institute of Certified Planners and is a member of the International City/County Management Association (ICMA).
While with Madison County, Parente helped facilitate the development of a logistics corridor that created over 6,500 new jobs and two Amazon Distribution Centers, developed long range plans and municipal corridor economic development plans and helped initiate a $180 million project rehabilitating the region’s flood prevention system that protects over 100,000 residents, 5,000 businesses and 50,000 jobs.
Mayor Johnston said, “Joe’s breadth of experience will be invaluable to our community’s future development. We are delighted to welcome Joe and his wife, Beth, to Parkville“.
Parente expressed gratitude to the Board for selecting him as City Administrator. He said, “Parkville is a wonderful community. I look forward to working closely with the Board in carrying out its vision that includes strong planning, enhancing economic activity in the community and providing an exceptional quality of life for Parkville residents.”
