LogoTransparentYesterday Main Street Parkville Association, City of Parkville and community members took action to make sure the July 4th Celebration is good for families and local residents to enjoy! Though carnival rides will not operate, today the Main Street Parkville Association announced the addition of the Inflatable Children’s Village. Children 12 and under may experience unlimited play for $10 wristbands. Games, face painters, festival food vendors, a big telescope and personalized airbrushed shirts are also available. Festivities will be open on Thursday, July 3, from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. in the city parking lot east of Main St. and south of the railroad tracks.

The celebration continues on Friday, July 4 with the American Legion Pancake Breakfast, 11 Main Street, starting at 7:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. The “American Dreams” parade will begin at 10:00 a.m. at 63rd Street and 9 Hwy and ends in Historic Downtown Parkville on Main Street. Former Chiefs player Ted McKnight will be announcing the parade with 50 plus participants including the Platte County Sheriff Department Color Guard, Grand Marshal Jim McCall, clowns, the Sheltie Rescue Association, VFW, a surprise flash mob and many more.

Immediately following the parade the Inflatable Children’s Village and other activities will re-open. Take a moment to browse the shops, grab a bite to eat at one of the local restaurants or take a stroll in beautiful English Landing Park or the new Platte Landing Park. Please note that portions of the parks south of Rush Creek will close at noon in preparation for the evening fireworks display. A shuttle service will run on July 4 from 6:00 p.m. to midnight. Carnival Will Not Operate; All Other July 4th Activities Will Proceed.

LogoTransparentThe carnival will not be operating at the downtown Parkville July 4 celebration because it did not pass safety inspections performed this afternoon by the Amusement Ride Safety Unit of the Missouri Department of Public Safety and the Southern Platte Fire Protection District (Fire Marshal). Due to the complexity and number of violations, the best option was to close the carnival rides for the duration of the celebration. This decision was made in the interest of safety for all visitors to downtown Parkville. There will still be a great July 4 celebration in downtown Parkville. The weather looks to be beautiful, and there are many other activities for families to enjoy including a pancake breakfast, parade, vendors, fireworks, and more. Please visit www.parkvillemo.org for a complete schedule of activities.
