The City of Parkville was ranked the 8th Safest City in the state of Missouri, according to the SafeWise annual report released on July 9, 2018. Parkville ranked in the top 20 safest cities with a violent crime rate of less than one per 1,000 residents based on our commitment to community safety and crime prevention.
SafeWise, a safety advocacy website, compiled their report based on FBI crime statistics and population data. Each year, cities in every state are evaluated based on the number of reported violent crimes. Property crimes are also included in the evaluation to help break a tie. The rate of crimes was calculated per 1,000 residents in each city to make it easier to compare the likelihood of the crimes occurring in cities with vastly different populations.
According to the report, Parkville had low crime rates, including 0.31 violent crimes per 1,000 residents and 15.04 property crimes per 1,000 residents.
Nearby cities in the list of the top 20 included Pleasant Hill and Peculiar.
Mayor Johnston said, “Parkville ranked as the 8th Safest City in Missouri because of our hard working Police Department who is committed to community safety and crime prevention. Police services are an integral part of the City’s mission to provide an exceptional quality of life to our residents and visitors.”
