The City of Parkville welcomed recently elected aldermen Kevin Heaton and Brian T. Whitley to the Board of Aldermen at the meeting on April 18, 2017. Heaton and Whitley will be joining the nine-member board, along with Ward 3 Alderman Douglas P. Wylie and Ward 4 Alderman Greg Plumb who were re-elected to two-year terms.
Heaton and Whitley were elected as aldermen for Ward 1 and Ward 2, respectively. Ward 1 serves downtown, the Bluffs and River Hills Estates. Ward 2 serves portions of the Riss Lake, the Parkville Commons area and the northern edge of the downtown district.
Incumbents Douglas P. Wylie and Greg Plumb were elected to their second two-year term through April 2019. Plumb was appointed in May 2014 to fill a vacant term previously held by Mayor Johnston who was elected as mayor in 2014. Both Wylie and Plumb were elected in April 2015.
The City also said goodbye to two outgoing elected officials. Mayor Johnston presented gifts and certificates of appreciation to Ward 1 Aldermen Diane Driver and Ward 2 Alderman Jim Werner who did not seek re-election. Both Driver and Werner each served as aldermen for six years.
During his tenure, Werner served as the chairman of the Finance Committee from April 2012 until May 2016, was the Fewson Trust Fund manager and served on various ad-hoc committees. Driver served as the Board’s liaison to the Community Land and Recreation Board, Farmers’ Market and Parkville Nature Sanctuary. Driver and Werner will serve on the City’s Tax Increment Financing Commission through May 2018.
Mayor Johnston stated, “Both Alderman Driver and Alderman Werner made significant contributions toward the progress of Parkville and will be missed. It was a great honor serving with them. I would like to welcome our newly elected aldermen. Kevin Heaton and Brian Whitley have excellent backgrounds in business and local government and will prove to be a real asset to the Board.”
