At a special meeting on Tuesday, February 6, 2018, the Parkville Board of Aldermen appointed Phil Wassmer to fill a vacant position previously held by Kevin Heaton. Wassmer will serve until the general municipal election in 2019.
Kevin Heaton was elected in April 2017 to a two-year term. His resignation became effective January 1, 2018, leaving the position vacant through the end of the term.
Parkville residents of Ward 1 interested in serving to fill the vacant term were asked to submit an interest letter and/or resume to the City Clerk by January 19, 2018. A committee of four aldermen reviewed the five applicants and recommended that the Mayor appoint Wassmer at a special meeting on February 6, 2018.
Phil Wassmer moved to Parkville in 2006. He served on the Community Land and Recreation Board since July 2013. He is an artist and businessman and founded Wassmer Studios in 1987. He and his wife Barbara enjoy living in Parkville and doing their part in promoting a healthy, sustainable community. In his interest letter he stated that he wants to focus his energy on a growing and thriving downtown business district and further enhance the park experience.
Mayor Johnston said, “Phil has been an active member of the Parkville community for many years and will be an excellent addition. We look forward to working with him.”
