PARKVILLE HIRES ALYSEN ABEL AS PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR
PARKVILLE, MO, NOVEMBER 19, 2014 – Last night the Board of Aldermen approved the hiring of Alysen Abel as the city’s Public Works Director. Following a national recruitment, Ms. Abel was chosen from over 20 applicants after completing a demanding interview and assessment process with city staff and volunteer technical experts from other public works organizations.
Ms. Abel currently serves as a Senior Civil Engineer for the City of Overland Park, Kansas. She brings six years of local government project management experience and nine years of private sector engineering experience to the City of Parkville. Alysen is a native of Loogootee, Indiana and completed a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Evansville and a Master of Science in Engineering Management from the University of Kansas. She is also currently pursuing a Master of Public Administration from the University of Kansas.
Ms. Abel is a Professional Engineer with licenses in both Missouri and Kansas. She is also an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Public Works Association (APWA), the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the American Society for Engineering Management (ASEM), and the Joint Engineering Council (JEC).
Parkville City Administrator Lauren Palmer said that “Alysen has an impressive background of relevant experience and comes highly recommended from current and past employers. I look forward to welcoming her to the City’s team.”
Alysen said, “I am delighted to be a part of this world class city and amazing municipal team. I look forward to our journey together.” Abel will assume her duties as Public Works Director on December 8, 2014. The Public Works Director has oversight for the streets division, parks division, Parkville sewer utility, and the Parkville nature sanctuaries.
