Alan Schank Posthumously Recognized as Parkville’s Outstanding Civic Leader by the Missouri Municipal League

07/29/2022 By Administrator

The City of Parkville selected Alan Schank as the recipient of the City’s 2022 Civic Leadership Award, presented by the West Gate Division of the Missouri Municipal League (MML), to recognize his outstanding contributions as a civic leader in developing a stronger Parkville. Alan’s family accepted the certificate of appreciation at MML’s annual banquet on July 29th.

The West Gate Division of MML hosts a Civic Leadership Award Banquet annually to give West Gate communities an opportunity to recognize the exceptional contributions of business and civic leaders in developing stronger cities. The West Gate Region of MML consists of member municipalities in the five metropolitan counties of Jackson, Clay, Platte, Ray and Cass.

Alan Schank was the Director of Operations for the Streets Division of the Public Works Department and was one of the City’s longest serving employees, having served for almost 35 years. He passed away in December 2021. Alan was chosen posthumously by the City continually demonstrated effective uses of budget resources. He identified and solved problems not only within his realm of responsibility, but was also a valued resource of institutional knowledge sharing his perspective in a thoughtful and respectful manner. He led the public works team in supporting City projects and events – many times participating in them at the parks and nature sanctuary.

Alan led by example, demonstrating how to be a positive role model by establishing regional partnerships and building trust within the community — doing what was right — not because that was his job, but because it was the right thing to do

Mayor Dean Katerndahl said, “Alan’s contributions were numerous and added to the quality of life our residents enjoy. We are pleased and honored to recognize his selfless work on behalf of Parkville and our surrounding communities.”
