The dedication ceremony for the Parkville Community Time Capsule is set for August 22nd at 12:30 PM on the McKeon Stage in English Landing Park. The ceremony is part of the regular Parkville Days festivities. The time capsule includes over forty items from various community groups, neighborhoods, schools, and interested citizens. Some of the various items include school yearbooks, local newspapers, pictures from throughout the community, t-shirts, and even canned water from the flood cleanup of 1993!
The City has invited those who submitted an item to ceremoniously place the item in the time capsule. In cases in which the submitter is not able to attend, the Mayor and/or someone from the City will be placing the item in the capsule.
A few days following the ceremony, items will be sealed in airtight plastic bags for longevity and the time capsule will then be buried at the Spirit Fountain. A commemorative plaque will mark burial location. The time capsule is scheduled to be opened on Parkville’s 200th anniversary in 2049.
