Update from Kansas City Power & Light Company (KCP&L):
Since storms moved in after 4 a.m. this morning, KCP&L had a peak of more than 60,000 customers without power, reduced now to below 30,000.
All available storm crews, including contractors, were called in very early this morning to assess damage and begin restoration efforts. In some areas, damage assessment is still ongoing as weather, trees down and other challenges tend to slow restoration efforts.
Wind, tree branches and entire trees down as well as lightning were causes of these outages. Critical customers, such as hospitals, emergency responders and public safety are first priority in storm restoration. There is the possibility that in some pockets of damaged areas, some customers will not be restored today.
If a customer is without power they can report it at to www.kcpl.com/reportoutage or by calling 1-888-LIGHTKC (1-888-544-4852). We also caution all customers to stay away from any and all downed power lines and to call to report them as soon as possible.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please let me know. At this time, however, given damage assessment process, the broad area of outages and trees down, restoration times are extremely difficult to predict.
