A message from the Park University – School of Business:

Your role as a community leader is very important to the future of our youth…near and far…

…and I hope that you might take a few moments to review this email and the attached brochure and think of any young man or woman who might be a candidate for this great summer learning opportunity.

We invite you to share the attached materials with students (friends, neighbors, family) who you might consider a worthy prospect for this unique summer program which is now in its 4th year.

This is a Scholarship Competition where 20 students can receive a full scholarship for the program (an $895 value).

The Summer Business Academy is about real-world experience for high school students (10th and 11th graders in the fall 2013 semester), who may be interested in a career in business. We are looking for students who have a desire and drive to reach their personal goals, and who would welcome the opportunity to “test the waters” of the college business school environment.

Our week-long Academy features an in-depth look at business, ethics, free enterprise, teamwork and personal skills that will better prepare students for life after high school and beyond. It will prepare students for their future and challenge them to develop an entrepreneurial spirit. Students will leave the Summer Business Academy with a better understanding of the value of teamwork and self-determination, along with an awareness of the various opportunities available. We have served 60 students from 37 different high schools (in four states) in the last three years.

This is an on campus, residential, experience. Students will live in the beautiful Copley Quad, a state of the art student residence. Students will be involved in classroom activities, team projects, tours of business and industry, and lessons that will help them explore life as a business student at the next level. Participants who later choose to matriculate to Park University will also be awarded three credit hours for our Introduction to Business (MG 110) course upon successful completion of their first semester.

Minority students, students from economically challenged schools and students who will be the first generation in their family to attend college are encouraged to apply. We do have a few spaces available for those who can afford the full tuition (please call me for details).

Thanks for taking a few minutes to review our brochure and considering this as a project for someone you would encourage to pursue a college career. For more information and our online application, please check out our website:

www.park.edu/businessacademy

Again, we appreciate your support and interest in the Park School of Business Summer Business Academy Scholarship Competition.

Sincerely,

Steve Porter, 816-607-2152

April 11, 2013

I-35 Lane Closures Begin Downtown Bridges Construction

KANSAS CITY – Closure of the right lane of northbound I-35 at 27th Street beginning early Saturday morning will kick off a season of highway repairs in and near Downtown.

The right lane of northbound I-35 at 27th Street will close from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 13, for barrier removal in preparation for bridge deck repair/replacement scheduled to start next week. In addition, the left lane of the ramp from Southwest Trafficway to northbound I-35 also will close during the same hours on Saturday.

Work begins Monday on northbound I-35. The left lane of northbound I-35 will close at Cambridge Circle from 8 p.m. Monday, April 15, then the two left lanes will close from 9 p.m. Monday to 5 a.m. Tuesday, April 16, for pavement marking. The Penn Valley ramp to northbound I-35 will close Monday night, through December. In addition, a lane of the ramp from Southwest Trafficway to northbound I-35 will be closed during construction. Similar lane closures and reconfiguration to southbound I-35 lanes begin Wednesday night, April 17, into 5 a.m. Thursday morning, April 18. The Broadway ramp to southbound I-35 will close Wednesday night through December. Once the pavement marking reconfiguration is complete, two lanes of traffic for both northbound and southbound I-35 will be maintained through December, with occasional additional nighttime lane restrictions for concrete pours, moving barriers and striping during subsequent construction phases.

The weekend closures precede a spring, summer and autumn of work that begin next week with two narrowed northbound and southbound lanes from about Cambridge Circle to north of West Pennway. The lane restrictions will enable workers a safe site to perform re-decking work on I-35′s bridges.
