Nan Johnston was elected as Mayor in April 2014 to a 2-year term. She was subsequently re-elected in 2016 and 2019 to 3-year terms. Prior to being mayor, she served six years as a Ward 4 Alderman on the Board of Aldermen from 2008 through 2014. She also serves on the Finance Committee.
Nan grew up in a family dedicated to community service. Her parents volunteered with veterans, school, scouting, charitable, and church organizations. Following their example, Nan has volunteered her time with organizations serving pets, cancer research, schools, scouts, neighborhoods, community development organizations, church and chambers. While an alderman, her ad hoc Economic Development Committee wrote the Parkville Plan for Progress, which recommended and then founded the Parkville Economic Development Council.
Mayor Johnston holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Pittsburg State University. She has owned McManus Direct, a mailing list brokerage and direct mail consulting firm, since 1993 and has experience with new business start-ups, retail management, residential property management and newspaper advertising sales. She is an active community volunteer in several organizations and a liturgical minister at Saint Therese Catholic Church. She is on the Board of Directors of the Parkville Economic Development Council and the Northland Regional Chamber of Commerce and is Secretary of the Board for Saint Luke’s North Hospital.
Mayor Johnston is the proud mother of Lindsay McManus who lives and works in Washington, DC.
