Parkville Named Tree City USA for 32nd Year in a Row

For the 32nd year in a row, the City of Parkville was named a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation in honor of its commitment to effective urban forest management. Parkville is one of only 15 communities in Missouri that has been named as Tree City USA for 32 years or more.

The City achieved Tree City USA recognition by meeting the program’s four requirements:

  • A tree board or department;
  • A tree care ordinance;
  • An annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita; and
  • Arbor Day observance and proclamation

The City will host a public Arbor Day celebration on Friday, April 22nd at 12:00 p.m. at Watkins Park. A tree will be planted in the park to commemorate the event.

Mayor Johnston stated, “It is an honor to serve for a community that places such high regard on the importance of trees and parks. We join the Arbor Day Foundation in celebrating this special day.”
