Alderman Philip Wassmer – Ward 1

Philip Wassmer was appointed by the Board of Aldermen on February 6, 2018, to serve as Ward 1 Alderman and was subsequently elected in April 2019. He was re-elected in 2021 and 2023.

Since moving to Parkville nearly 15 years ago, Phil’s first involvement in community service was serving six years on the Community Land and Recreation Board where he enjoyed being involved in helping shape the details regarding the maintenance and improvement of our City parks. That experience helped him understand the importance of Parkville’s evolving park system and how the greater community benefits from its regional acclaim. Next, he was honored to be appointed by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen to complete the balance of term for Ward 1 Alderman when the previous Alderman chose to step down. He was then elected to a full-term as alderman in April 2019 and found the job to be extremely rewarding because he is dedicated to helping Parkville prosper while maintaining the charm it is known for throughout the metro area.

Phil is the owner/manager of Wassmer Studios, a company he founded 32 years ago that designs and manufactures architectural cast stone and ornamental plaster products primarily used in high-end residential construction. He is a Member at Large of the Main Street Parkville Association, a member of Parkville’s Sons of the American Legion Squadron #318 in honor of his father’s service in World War II and was voted by the citizens of Parkville as the winner of the design competition for the future Parkville Veterans Memorial – an installation to be placed near the entrance to English Landing Park. Phil is a proud financial supporter and volunteer for the City’s annual Shop with a Cop program that assists underprivileged Parkville children to purchase holiday gifts for their immediate family members and themselves. He has also appointed as a board member of the Banneker School Foundation in 2019 where he assists in promoting the efforts of the foundation and helps to raise money and awareness with the goal of restoring the Banneker School and adding a planned visitor’s center and museum.
