The City of Parkville is pleased to announce it has achieved the Communities for All Ages Gold Level Recognition. The City will be presented a certificate by the Mid-America Regional Council at the Board of Aldermen meeting on October 17.
Since 2018, the City has participated in a regional initiative to make Parkville more age-friendly. Studies have shown that the senior population will greatly increase over the next 20 years. The initiative has helped the City plan for this shift in demographics, better prepare for the future, continue serving residents’ needs, and promote healthy living for residents of all ages.
The targeted topic areas that the City wanted to enhance for residents of all ages include:
- Public Outdoor Spaces and Buildings
 - Housing and Commercial Development
 - Transportation
 - Social Inclusion, Communication and Participation
 - Civic Participation and Employment
 - Community and Health Services

To earn the Gold Level Recognition, Parkville achieved both the Bronze and Silver level recognition. And, with the adoption of the Parks & Recreation Master Plan in July and in August the adoption of the 2026-2030 Capital Improvement Program, which includes funds for an inclusive playground in Platte Landing Park, the City was notified it received Gold Level recognition.
A community can earn each of the three levels of recognition representing the extent of its work in becoming a Community for All Ages. The three levels are Bronze (awareness), Silver (assessment) and Gold (implementation). The City received the Bronze Level recognition in January 2020 and the Silver Level recognition in January 2023.
Mayor Katerndahl said, “The City is very excited to receive the Gold Level Recognition as a Community for All Ages. But, it is not just the recognition, it is the fact that we are putting into place programs and facilities that will make our community more welcoming to people of any age. The Community for All Ages has been a terrific initiative sponsored by MARC helping to build better communities and we are honored to be a part of it.”
