Greg Plumb Recognized as Parkville’s Outstanding Civic Leader by Missouri Municipal League

The City of Parkville selected Greg Plumb, former Ward 4 Alderman  as the recipient of the City’s 2023 Civic Leadership Award. The award was presented by the West Gate Division of the Missouri Municipal League (MML), to recognize his outstanding contributions as a civic leader in developing a stronger Parkville. Greg accepted the certificate of appreciation at MML’s annual banquet on October 26th.

The West Gate Division of MML hosts a Civic Leadership Award Banquet annually to give West Gate communities an opportunity to recognize the exceptional contributions of business and civic leaders in developing stronger cities. The West Gate Region of MML consists of member municipalities in the five metropolitan counties of Jackson, Clay, Platte, Ray and Cass.

Greg Plumb has been a resident of Parkville and active in the community for many years. He earned is J.D. in 1975 and began working as a prosecuting attorney with Platte County in 1978. He opened his own practice in Clay County and then moved his office to Parkville. Greg began teaching full-time at Park University in 1990 and continues as a tenured full Professor of Criminal Justice.

In May 2014, Greg was appointed as a Parkville alderman to fill a vacancy in Ward 4. He was subsequently elected to the position in April 2015 and re-elected in 2017, 2019 and 2021. During his tenure, Greg served as the Board of Aldermen’s liaisons to the Friends of Parkville Animal Shelter where he assisted in obtaining the appropriate zoning so the shelter can expand; to the Veterans Committee where he oversaw successful fundraising for a memorial to be built in Parkville; and to the Parkville Area Chamber of Commerce. Greg also served as the Chair of the City’s Finance Committee and participated in many other projects and programs to benefit the City.  

Greg continues to play an active role in the Parkville community. He serves on the Committee for Public Safety for Platte County to help evaluate solutions for overcrowding in the detention center. He also serves on the Parkville Area Chamber of Commerce and EDC (PACE) as a representative for Park University.
