Parkville Named a Tree City USA for 35th Year

For the 35th year, the City of Parkville was named a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation in honor of its commitment to effective urban forest management. Parkville is one of only 15 communities in Missouri that has been named as Tree City USA for 35 years or more.

The City achieved Tree City USA recognition by meeting the program’s four requirements:

  • A tree board or department;
  • A tree care ordinance;
  • An annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita; and
  • Arbor Day observance and proclamation.

The City will host a public Arbor Day celebration on Friday, April 25th at 1:00 p.m. in Platte Landing Park. The event will begin with the reading of an Arbor Day proclamation, followed by staff and volunteers planting several varieties of flood-tolerant trees. The Missouri Department of Conservation will be handing out free persimmon and false indigo seedlings.

Mayor Katerndahl stated, “It is an honor to serve for a community that places such high regard on the importance of trees and parks. We join the Arbor Day Foundation in celebrating this special day.”
