Bob Bennett was elected as a Ward 2 Alderman in April 2022. He currently serves on the Finance Committee for Ward 2.
Bob has been active in local government since his retirement from 25 years of active service with the Army in 2016. From 2016-2019, he served as the Chief Innovation Officer for the City of Kansas City, MO in the Mayor Sly James administration. Key projects during that time included winning a transportation planning grant for the city in 2016, completing the technology projects included in the KC Streetcar corridor in 2017 and initiating a Smart City/Infrastructure Public-Private Partnership project in 2018. He left the City of Kansas City when Mayor James’ term ended.
Since 2019, Bob formed a civic technology consulting firm in Parkville and counts five cities and four private firms as clients. He chairs the Cities Today Institute, a multinational think tank for city leaders focused on including technology as one of many policy and operations management tools to solve problems in 21st Century communities.
Bob earned his Bachelor’s degree in history from the US Military Academy and holds two Master’s degrees: an MA in Strategy from the US Army Command and General Staff College and an MA in Communications from American University. He resides at Riss Lake with his wife Tara and a high school-aged son; two adult children attend college on the west coast.
